Katherine S. Newman, Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of California System since 2023, will offer her perspective on the current challenges facing undergraduate education at research universities. Dr. Newman is the Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and she served previously as the University of Massachusetts System Chancellor for Academic Programs, the Senior Vice President for Economic Development and the Torrey Little Professor of Sociology at UMass Amherst, and the James B. Knapp Dean of the Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. Additional appointments include those at Princeton, Harvard, and Columbia. See here for her full biography.
