In Illinois, only 20% of community college students earn a bachelor's degree within six years. This rate is even lower among underserved student populations, as the transfer process often exacerbates disparities in access, opportunity, support, persistence, and degree attainment. Roadmap 2.0, a strategic collaboration between the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) and Chicago Public Schools (CPS), integrates seamless transfer pathways, coordinated advising, collaborative agreements, student success programming, and an innovative degree planning portal—all designed to streamline the transfer process, prevent credit loss, and boost degree attainment. Join us for a UERU Virtual Town Hall featuring Dr. Nikos Varelas, Senior Vice Provost for Academic Programs, Student Success, and Effectiveness from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) – and UERU Board Chair. Dr. Varelas will discuss the development and implementation of this groundbreaking regional approach, including historical context, strategic partnerships with CCC and CPS, barriers and evidence-based solutions, student impact, and opportunities for scaling across Illinois and nationally. The Town Hall will include a live demonstration of the transfer portal, which is just one component of the Roadmap 2.0 approach. The portal, when combined with comprehensive student success programming, holds potential for improving equitable student outcomes and social mobility in today's challenging higher education landscape. Town Hall attendees will also gain practical insights for developing similar collaborative transfer pathway initiatives in their own communities.
