The Association for Undergraduate Education at Research Universities (UERU) has long supported UVP leadership development, usually implicitly. In the past three years, UERU has explicitly engaged leadership consultants and organized programs and discussions designed to bolster UVPs’ capacity to lead change and to foster ongoing focused conversation among UVPs who seek to hone and expand their leadership skills and acumen.
The Boyer 2030 Commission initiative and advent of the Provost Group also expand UERU’s commitment to leadership development, the former highlighting UVPs’ collective leadership in achieving nationally significant outcomes, the latter construed to support strengthening UVPs’ strategic leadership and to help them prepare for ever-evolving responsibilities.
